Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury (1941-2023)

Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik College of Physiotherapy and Health Science
Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury was the visionary founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and one of the foremost architects of people-centered healthcare and health education in Bangladesh. The establishment and philosophy of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik College of Physiotherapy and Health Science are deeply rooted in his lifelong commitment to social justice, accessible healthcare, and community-based medical education.
As a freedom fighter during the Liberation War of 1971, Dr. Chowdhury organized medical care for wounded freedom fighters and refugees, laying the foundation for a healthcare model based on compassion, service, and self-reliance. This same philosophy guides the academic and clinical mission of the College today.
Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury strongly believed that physiotherapy and health science professionals play a vital role in preventive care, rehabilitation, and community well-being. Inspired by his vision, the College emphasizes quality education, ethical practice, hands-on clinical training, and service to underserved populations through community outreach and hospital-based learning under Gonoshasthaya Kendra.
Through his leadership, Gonoshasthaya institutions became centers of excellence in medical education, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmaceuticals, and public health, ensuring affordability without compromising quality. The College continues to uphold his ideals by producing competent, compassionate, and socially responsible health professionals dedicated to serving humanity.
